The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team took a lead into halftime, but Oakton rallied beat the Chargers 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon in Region IV play.
The Chargers (0-4, 0-2) opened the scoring in the 26th minute as Kym Marsden (Aldershot, England/Connaught) connected off a feed from Mike Pavon (Galveston, Texas/Willis).
The Owls got the equalizer in the 73rd minute on a goal from Bukola Abdulwahab to send the game into overtime. Oakton got the game-winner early in OT, as Abdulwahab scored again in the 93rd minute.
Three of Sandburg's four matches this season have been decided by one goal.
Oakton outshot the Chargers 24-16, but Sandburg had nine corner kicks to the Owls’ six. Eight of the Chargers’ corners came in the first half.
Freshman Saahil Kapoor (Guilford, England/Guilford County) made seven saves in goal for Sandburg, which hosts South Suburban at 4 p.m. Wednesday in another Region IV matchup.
